Coded-subcarrier-aided chromatic dispersion monitoring scheme for flexible optical OFDM networks.
A simple coded-subcarrier aided scheme is proposed to perform chromatic dispersion monitoring in flexible optical OFDM networks. A pair of coded label subcarriers is added to both edges of the optical OFDM signal spectrum at the edge transmitter node. Upon reception at any intermediate or the receiver node, chromatic dispersion estimation is performed, via simple direct detection, followed by e...

Recently, coherent optical OFDM (CO-OFDM) has been proposed for optical networks to combat chromatic dispersion. CO-OFDM system has been successfully processed and recovered for transmitted signals without optical chromatic dispersion compensation. However, in optical links, the available optical power is limited due to fiber nonlinearity, and power consumption. As previously reported, we focus...
متن کاملImprovement of Optical Properties in Hexagonal Index-guiding Photonic Crystal Fiber for Optical Communications
Waveguides with low confinement loss, low chromatic dispersion, and low nonlinear effects are used in optical communication systems. Optical fibers can also be employed in such systems. Besides optical fibers, photonic crystal fibers are also highly suitable transmission media for optical communication systems. In this paper, we introduce two new designs of index-guiding photonic crystal fiber ...

The optical signals degrade as travel down the optical link due to the optical fiber properties such as chromatic dispersion, polarization mode dispersion, polarization dependent loss, polarization dependent gain and various fiber nonlinear effects, which are considered as limitations in the high-speed, lang-haul fiber communication systems. Where chromatic dispersion causes different wavelengt...

We experimentally demonstrate a novel digital signal processing (DSP) structure for reduced guard-interval (RGI) OFDM coherent optical systems. The proposed concept is based on digitally slicing optical channel bandwidth into multiple spectrally disjoint sub-bands which are then processed in parallel. Each low bandwidth sub-band has a smaller delay-spread compared to a full-band signal. This en...
